Last weekend, days 28-29 november, PT Foundation promote the Red Carnival to celebrate the World AIDS Day. And the Loving Our Lives Team couldn't stay out of it!
The big party happen in Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur.
We join the PT Foundation as volunteers and we had a chance to perform a HIV/AIDS Game on
the stage for 15min.

The Game was super fun, and the idea come from the new Kazakhstan interns. It was very simple and attract a lot of public, from the most different ages, since youngsters to senior citizens!! Living Diversity!!!

Well, it was two days of much fun and creating awareness. Many red ribbons were distribute. This year theme was "I AM" and "Stop AIDS. Keep the promise", the last one following the international campaign.
For sure next year will be even more fun.

The World AIDS Day is just around the corner!! Wait no more and come volunteer yourself to help out in this meaningful event!

World AIDS Day has been providing opportunities to all of us to protect and support the HIV infected people over the past 20 years and it has been working its best to educate people around the globe to prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS virus as the number of HIV infected people are increasing!

This year, World AIDS Day is once again providing us the same opportunity to help stop AIDS. Thus, PT Foundationtakes the action to organize this meaningful event at Fiesta Streets, Sungei Wang Plaza in Bukit Bintang on 28th and 29th November 2009!

Let’s volunteer ourselves to help out in this great event!!

Let’s educate our society to be aware of HIV virus transmission!!

SMK LA SALLE

This week in the days 10 and 12 November we had workshops at SMK La Salle.
The first one (10/11) was with a very fun class of boys that really like to play games, they easy volunteer for all of them and participate a lot!

The second workshop (12/11) was with another class of enthusiastic students.
For sure the most funny part is the condom demo, as usually it is everyone's favorite at the evaluation forms.

WoRkShOp at TUC Main Campus and SMK SU

At 03.11.2009 we had another very nice workshop in Taylor's University College.
In the begging the audience was very shy, and almost don't shake hands in the wild fire game, but with time everybody start to participate a bit more and the workshop become very fun.
As always the condom demo was everyone's favorite.
Also it was my first workshop by myself! I love it (by Crisci)! Hope the next ones be even more fun.

Other very interesting workshop was at 5.11.2009 in SMK Subang Utama.
The class of young students around 14-15 years old. Who love to make jokes during the session...
We had many games, and this time everybody favorite was the body game, the one with a rope that represent the human body, we learn about how HIV attacks our body and how the white blood cells fight it and the infections, it is all related with HIV been a silent disease! So informative!
Very good everyone enjoy it.

Fun at Taylor's Main Campus!!!

On 27 October we had a wonderful workshop at Taylor's University College main campus. With a very small but enthusiastic class of students.
They were well inform, answering our questions and making their own. We play several games and had a good time there. For sure the funnest is always the condom demo.

We would like to thanks the teacher for supporting us.We hope that the next workshops will be even better and we can continue learning about HIV/AIDS!

SMK Bandar Sri Damansara 2

On the 21st of October we had the great pleasure of visiting SMK Bandar Sri Damansara 2. This crowd was very enthusiastic, only showing up on stage and introducing ourselves resulted into a great applause! We felt very welcome at your school.

And although it wasn't always easy to make everyone understand our message; because of the big audience and the projector who only did his job half; we had a great time at your school and we would love to visit again.

Thank you for your the delicious nasi lemak and the great time, we hope you had a good time as well and that you all became more aware about HIV and AIDS!

A wonderful and interesting Workshop at TUC Main Campus On 15.10.2009

It was at TUC C5

It was evening, so I couldn't imagine that I could enjoy the workshop and the presentation as well for that extent... Out of all the workshops I have ever conducted, this was the class who had the smallest amount of students eve! It was easy and nice for us, because we could get to interact with the audience very easily......apart from that, the audience was very enthusiastic and active during the games....

Next to that the teacher who was on duty was there to observe on what we were doing and for real he appreciated the job....we would like to say:

'thank you sir...."

Part II SEGi College: 13th of October

The next day, on Tuesday evening we had a special workshop at SEGi College. Why? Instead of teaching students about HIV/Aids we had a group of teachers! Although they had quite a lot of knowledge on the subject, even for them there was some new information to be obtained. For example on how the anti retroviral therapy works; it slows down the multiplication of virus in your body, but unfortunately can not cure an infected person.

The games and especially the condom demonstration made the workshop a lot of fun for us and our audience!

We would like to give a special word of gratitude to Mr. Zakaria, you were a great help for us during all of the workshops at SEGi College!

We hope you all obtained some more knowledge on the subject and that you'll spread the word and get involved!!

On mondaymorning the Loving Our Lives team tried to find SEGi College, this was quite challenging for us! So after a walk and a taxi drive we arrived a bit to late at mr. Z's class; a group of upcoming nurses. These girls were paying a lot of attention to our workshop and were willing to volunteer.

When we came to the condom demonstration a group of IT students busted into the class. This was very helpfull, an extra volunteer amongst them! :)

After class we got to talk to the nurses, which was very nice. They told us about the indian celebration this weekend, for shure we will go into KL to celebrate along! Thanks for the tip!

In the afternoon we held a workshop for a big group of arts & culture students. Thank you for your participation and enthousiasm during our workshop!

Games at TUC Sri Hartamas

Wednesday 30th of September the Loving our Lives team was present on the Sri Hartamas campus of TUC. It was the first time we went there but it will definitely not be the last time! The students at Sri Hartamas are such nice and enthousiastic young people that we really want to go back there as soon as possible. We played the Twister game which was a lot of fun! Furthermore, we told people about our workshops and about AIESEC. Hopefully we will be able to conduct workshops at Sri Hartamas in the future!

Also, a mini workshop took place as two students asked about HIV affects your body. The presentation about the HIV virus, infections and white blood cells clarified the way HIV destroys your immune system.

This morning, the Loving our Lives team went on an early workshop at TUC. At 8 o'clock 60 students, not yet really awake, were in our workshop playing games.

The shaking hands game was a great way to wake up for both students and us!

Only at the condom demonstration everyone was fully awake and watched two fellow students with great interest when they were showing how to use a condom. An important lesson was that if you fail to put on a condom the first time, you should use a new one.

Thanks class, for all your energy and enthousiasm!!!! And especially thanks to the teacher, who allowed us to conduct a workshop for the second time!

After the workshop, the Loving our Lives team had a booth at the main campus of TUC to raise awareness about HIV, play HIV/Aids Twister and inform people on the Open workshop on friday 2nd of October (2.1 Main Campus TUC, 2 p.m.). Also students could write a message or a wish to HIV infected people and put it on a poster. This poster will be given to Rumah Wake, an organisation that helps HIV positive people.

Especially the Twister game was really populair and it was a lot of fun too!

Workshops 28-09-09 at TUC!!!

Today, the Loving our Lives team had the pleasure of conducting two workshops at TUC!!!

The first was in the morning with approximately 30 enthusiastic and proactive students. The games were a lot of fun and especially the condom demonstration was hilarious. The volunteering students did a great job in showing how to use a condom. Congratulations!

Thank you so much for being so active and fun to work with!

The second workshop was for a larger audience which did not know that we were coming. We were a big surprise for them! We talked about the ways people get infected with HIV (remember; mother to child, sharing needles and unprotected sex) and how to prevent yourself from getting infected. The ABCD theory was also explained and the students were really interested. Do you still know what it stands for? (A= abstinence, B= be faithfull, C= use condom and D= don't do drugs and if you do, use new needles)

Workshops at SKM Damansara Jaya 15th of September 2009

On 15th of September 2009 Suzanne from Netheralds, Aga from Poland, Ben from Tanzania and Aga from Poland conducted two workshops at SKM Damansara Jaya School.

After introduction was time to play games.
Students were very active. they learn that HIV is not this same like AIDS!

HIV is called a silent disease because even if we are infected, we don't feel sick, because the body is still able to fight off the infection.

Do you remember the formula? AIDS = Ilnesses + HIV

We have many treatments for HIV/ AIDS but there is no cure!

We also learn about suprising facts. Do you know that every 6 second someone gets HIV infected?

Now is time for next activity - condom demonstration, we need volunteers!!!

Students were very active and learn how to wear condom.

Well done boys!
Do you remember what cause stigma?? Circle of stigma go around forever, unless we together do an effort to beak it! Break the ignorance, let's start to talk about HIV/AIDS.

Today was the first day of the HIV Aids Awareness weet at TUC. The booth at TBS was nicely decorated and students had the opportunity to play games and to get themselves informed on HIV/ Aids and going abroad with AIESEC.

The HIV/Aids Twister game was the favourite game. Above all, it was a lot of fun!

Workshop at KBU

Wednesday 9 September a Loving our Lives workshop took place at the beautiful campus of KBU. The Loving our Lives team was present with 6 members, Aga and Aga from Poland, Ben from Tanzania, Rizky from Indonesia, Suzanne and Brenda from the Netherlands.

The students at KBU were very active and volunteering to play our games. First we played the Wild Fire game which showed how quickly HIV can spread among people.

The students were already a bit familiar with HIV Aids and were of great help when going through the information. Also some very good questions were asked about the HIV virus.

There were also some games that were played by the students and the Loving our Lives team.

The crossing of the bridge of hope game was pretty difficult. It showed how important it is to get support from your family and friends. As a methaphor it showed that the ABC theory (Abstinence, Be faithfull and Condom use) can protect you from contracting HIV from sex.

And of course we made a group picture!

Improving our skills to deliver better trainings for you!

On Saturday 5^th of September all interns from TUC but also interns having internship connected with HIV in other cities in Malaysia gathered in one place to participate in Train the Trainers HIV workshop.
During 8 hours of intense training we had amazing opportunity to increase our knowledge about HIV thus better deliver trainings for you and be prepared to answer any questions that may occur.
We were also able to exchange our thoughts and experience with other peer to peer educators, learn their hints and tricks, gather ideas how to improve our daily work.

We got insights on current situation in Malaysia we had opportunity to talk with people who run big number of workshops and actually were educating youth in Malaysia even few years ago!

This all makes us really confident in our skills in ability to deliver unique workshop for you. If you want we can come to your school and increase awareness of HIV\AIDS among you and your friends!

Workshop at Sekolah Sri Murni 21.08

On the 21st of August we had a workshop for the students at Sekolah Sri Murni .

The workshop was held by Marta (intern from Poland), Casper (intern from Denmark) and Aga ( new intern from Poland).

On the beginning of workshop, we were explaining about AIESEC and the partnership between AIESEC and Standard Chartered Bank.

During our workshops students had opportunity to take a part in games.

They enjoyed the wild fire game and get to know that HIV spread quickly.

Workshop at ADP, Monday 17.08

Yesterday Lily, Marta, Marcin and Casper went to the American Degree Transfer Program to conduct the workshop. They met there very enthusiastic and living students, so the atmosphere was great.

Unfortunately it was Lily’s last workshop. Today she’s going back Hong Kong.

It seemed that student enjoyed the body game. It was lots of laugh but at the same time they get to know how the immune system works and how HIV progressed in the body.

Marcin explained ABC theory. Do you remember what A, B and C stands for?? :)

During the Casper’s presentation, students heard about stigma. As he said the circle of stigma can be broken if we talk about HIV and know the facts. We all hope that after this workshop students are ready to stamp it out

Workshop at TUC, Friday 14/8

Today, Marta, Marcin, Casper and Lily went off to Taylor's University College to perform a workshop. It was really great to get on the go again, and hopefully more schools are following soon!
The workshop was limited to only one hour so a lot of time had been spend on shorting down our presentation - but still it was a great workshop!

As foreigners we have observed that Malaysian students sometimes are a bit shy! So today when we asked the students if they had had "unprotected sex" with the volunteers during the wildfire game very few of them stood up :-(

That's like the problem with HIV/AIDS in the Malaysian society. People are afraid of standing up, taking an HIV test, and getting knowledge of if they have the virus or not. And if somebody has HIV, that person is afraid of telling others about it - that's what we call the iceberg theory and the circle of stigma, which we explain during our workshops.
We hope that our peer to peer conducted workshops can help you as a student to face the world and stand up - don't be shy!
By having the courage to talk about the HIV/AIDS issue, we can fight it together. Join us in this - and show that you love life!

HIV workshop-21.07.2009

This week we went to Segi College to have our HIV/AIDS workshop. It was the first time for the participants to have HIV/AIDS workshop! So it was really a good opportunity for them to learn more about HIV!

Marcin(new intern from poland) had his first workshop in Malaysia!He told students about the agenda of the day and what is HIV.

Marcin played the Wild Fire Game with the students and he asked them to shake hands with 5 different people. Students needed to introduce their names and their favourite animals. However, in this game, shaking hand meaned...HAVING UNPROTECTED SEX!!!

The only way to know whether a person has HIV or not is by HIV TEST! Therefore, Marcin was distributing the results of the HIV tests to the students.

The students below were the one who were hiv-positive. (Only in this game!!!)The people who shaked hand with them got HIV and nearly all the people are contracted with HIV!

Lily played the body game with the students to explain how HIV affected our immune system. When she was explaining oral sex was considered as low risk to get HIV and asked if students know what is oral sex, Brian(a naughty and active student in the workshop) asked her to demonstrate and all laughed. Anyway, remember you won't get HIV by kissing, hugging, schooling together...

Pong invited some volunteers for the Bridges of Hope. Say "Love live" if they cross the bridge successfully!

It is too hard to cross the bridge without support...just like our journey in life! We always need someone to give us support to make decisions.

Things seemed such better with the support bridge! Everyone could now cross the bridge! The support from friends, family and society is very important to HIV patients!With support, they are not alone in their journey to fight with HIV.

Pong was explaining what each part of the bridge represented and he simplified it into ABC theory. C stands for??? CONDOM !!!

Look! The students in the classroom were concentrated and they gained a lot of knowledge about HIV!

This time, we have the condom demonstration by Pong. It is his first time to have condom demonstration by him so he is quite nervous about it! He taught people about where to get condoms, the expiry date, the way to store, how to use and where to deposite them...

The classroom is full of laughters when Pong made the mistake about the direction to put on the condom! The demonstration ended by throwing the condom to the rubbish bin and Pong threw it to Bjarke!haha, may be he thought Bjarke is the rubbish bin...

Bjarke was showing the statistics about HIV/AIDS. The area where most HIV infection was found was Africa.

Bjarke was telliing the students the situation of HIV infection in Malaysia.

When Pong asked the students how many condoms should be used at one time, Brian said more than 2. But it is WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, one will be enough because more than one condom will increase the friction and increase the chances of the condoms to break, so using more than one condoms does not mean that it is 200% safer. =]

Finally, thanks for Segi College for giving us the chance to conduct the workshop! We hope the participants will spread the knowledge that they have learnt to their family and friends, so we can stamp out stigma and create a better world for all of us !!!!

HIV workshops in SMK bud 4-16/7/2009

This week LoL team had 2 workshops in SMK Bandar Utama Damansara 4 for Form 4 and 5 students! It was such an educative workshop full of laughters!

Marta(the new intern from Poland) is introducing AIESEC and HIV/AIDS to the students! It is the first time for Marta to conduct a workshop in Malaysia! Cheer for her~~

Marta is playing the Wild Fire game with the students and telling them how fast HIV will spread by unprotected sex! Students are having fun in the game!

Lily(the intern from Hong Kong) is explaining how HIV will affect the immune system by the body game. It is also her first time to have a workshop in Malaysia! Students are kept laughing when they saw their friends in the role play!

A girl is crossing the bridge of hope, trying to obtain her happiness in life! Watch out!

* Btw, the funniest part of the day is that Bkarke fell down in the trench when he said thank you to the students and Marta kept laughing at him for the rest of the day!

CV and interview workshop

Sometimes it is nice to do something new. That's what we did on Friday July 10. Instead of doing a workshop on HIV/AIDS, we went to the AIESEC TUC LC meeting to conduct a workshop on CV and interview skills. We wanted to prepare the AIESECers for that savage and cynic job market out there, so off to TUC we went ...

After having worked on the presentation the previous days before, it was nice to finally deliver the workshop, and tell the AIESECers about how that job search world works.

In our workshop we told the participants that CVs and interviews are your marketing tool, they are what you use to sell yourself to a company. We talked about how to build up a CV in a tidy and structured way, we gave a few insights into good writing guidelines in order for the application to knock off the socks of the employer, and we briefly introduced online CVs and cover letters.

Moreover, we tried to uncover the mysteries of job interviews. Lucy and Margareta told about how to prepare for an interview and how to prepare for the questions asked during the interview. Casper explained the CORE (or STAR) method where the basic point is that you should always structure your answers and give some well-grounded reasons for your opinions and behaviour. Finally, we summed up the interview part of the job search as three important key notes: Be confident, be honest and be yourself.

This was also the day where we had to say goodbye to two interns: Lucy and Ingrid. What a sad day! We've shared some great times with those two, and we're really hoping that we'll meet them somewhere around the world in the near future. Take care, girls! The intern house will be missing you!

Great workshops at Sri KL

On Thursday 2 July, we the Loving Our Lives interns went to the school Sri Kuala Lumpur to do four workshops. We were six people: Olga, Sabrina, Pong, Ingrid, and the two new interns Bjarke and Casper from Denmark.

Usually we find the students a bit shy and not very eager to volunteer for our fun games, but at Sri KL we met the coolest students!
They made Bjarke and Casper's inaugural workshop a good experience and very rewarding, and for the "old" interns it became a day to remember.
Especially Olga, Sabrina and Ingrid, who did their last workshops in the internship, were grateful that they could finish off their time in Malaysia with those students.

The greatest pleasure of these workshops was that the students were so active listeners, asked some really good questions, and seemed to understand our message: That we have to talk about HIV/AIDS in order for us to avoid lack of knowledge, fear and discrimination!

HIV/AIDS Awareness Day - 11/06/09 and 12/06/09

This week the AIESEC TUC team and the Interns organized an HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, held over two days at TBS and Main Campus at TUC. The days were full of fun activities, music, and workshops!

Our project

According to UNICEF Malaysia has the fastest-growing HIV epidemic in South-East Asia, so it’s really important to be aware of HIV/AIDS! It’s becoming increasingly urgent to let students know, not only how to protect themselves against it, but also how to live with the disease.

During our workshops, we present a lot of information and give students a chance to participate in what we are doing. They can play games with us, which help them to remember and understand what we’re teaching, and they can ask the questions to clarify any doubts.

With the backing from our sponsors, we have the privilege of running workshops free of charge in your school or organization. That’s important because it lets us reach schools, which probably couldn’t afford paying for a workshop like this. In this way we get to teach all students around Malaysia – tall or small, girl or boy, round or lean, rich or poor: Remember that this disease is the same for every person, no matter how strong, rich, or old you are - Everyone should be careful!

We’re the Loving Our Lives team; so if you love your live, join us! Let other people increase their knowledge and maybe, because of that, save their lives. Be a part of the LOL Team!

Agnieszka from Poland
Selamat Pagi!! Hello!
My name is Agnieszka, but my friends call me Aga. I am from Poland studying at Poznan University of Technology, Marketing and Management faculty.
I came here to share my passions with other students. Learn how to react and work with people which have different experience than I have, and think differently than I do. Learn how to work as a part of the team, get to know more about myself, my weaknesses and strengths. I am here to discover a different culture and make new friends from all over the world. Hey!! Oi!! My name is Criscinare, but everybody in Asia calls me Crisci. I am from Brazil. Currently, I’m studying Business Administration at Federal University of Santa Maria. I lived in Indonesia for 8 months and now I came to Malaysia to learn a bit more about the Asian culture and about this wonderful country. I joined this team because I wanted do try different working situations; meet new people from all over the world and share experiences. My name is Bernard Tesha, Am coming from Tanzania. Currently am a second year student at Mzumbe University studying Bachelor of Accounting and Finance For now am in Malaysia for my Development traineeship (DT) at Taylors University College (TUC). am working in HIV AIDS PROJECT in TUC

I chosen this project even though there are other project because I am really interested with gaining awareness in AIDS also as a change agent I need to bring a huge impact to the society especially in youth who are mostly affected by the disease in Malaysia and in my own country..

Suzanne from The Netherlands

My name is Suzanne Roggeveen, I am 21 years old and I study medicine in the Netherlands. This is my first trip to Asia and so far I love it! What a different but beautiful culture and nature. Also I think it is really nice to not only visit the country, but to also join in the ‘Loving Our Lives’ project. HIV/AIDS is a dangerous virus, surrounded with a lot of ignorance and stigma, so I think it is important to create awareness and knowledge on this subject. Especially amongst young people as they are the future of the world! I hope to see you on a workshop!

We are the Loving Our Lives team from AIESEC Taylor's University College!

What we do is to conduct peer to peer education workshops at schools. We want to teach the youth of Malaysia about HIV/AIDS issues in order for them both to make well-thought and good choices in the life and to stamp out stigma about HIV/AIDS in society.

We want to use this blog to post stories about our work, about the workshops we conduct, the people we meet, and whatever comes up during the project.

If you're a school teacher, a counsellor, from an organization or in some other position where you'd like to invite us to your place to conduct a workshop, then do not hesitate to get in contact with us!
